Pennywise is a terrifying character from the horror genre, most notably featured in adaptations of Stephen King's novel, *It*. He is a shapeshifting entity, often taking the form of a clown to lure children, his preferred prey.
Pennywise's first appearance on screen was in the 1990 television miniseries, *It*, portrayed by Tim Curry. In the miniseries, he torments a group of children known as the "Losers' Club" in the fictional town of Derry, Maine.
More recently, Pennywise was portrayed by Bill Skarsgård in the 2017 and 2019 film adaptations of *It*. Skarsgård's portrayal presented a more overtly monstrous and unpredictable version of the character, building on the established horror elements.
